R-CERO II. - MBW

In 2001, the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Order on the Management of Separately Collected Waste Types in the Public Service of Municipal Waste Management (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 21/2001). The Order provides for the separate collection of certain types of waste.

Regardless of the efficiency of separate waste collection, a substantial share of municipal waste is not collected separately. This waste is called residual mixed municipal waste. Before being deposited in the landfill, this waste can be treated and an appropriate share to be incinerated at the district heating plant can be separated. In this way, only the biologically inactive share of the waste is deposited in the landfill.

The Mechanical and Biological Treatment of Municipal Waste subproject is a part of the broader project “The Celje Waste Treatment Centre, Phase II – Mechanical, Biological and Thermal Treatment of Municipal Waste”. This project is an integral part of the Celje Regional Waste Treatment Centre, the comprehensive management of waste treatment in 24 municipalities of the Savinja region.

The objective of the investment into the mechanical and biological treatment of waste is to reduce the quantity of waste deposited in the existing landfill in Bokovžlak, thus contributing to the protection of the environment.
