The Scope of the Project

The Celje Regional Waste Treatment Centre is a modern regional project including 24 municipalities of the Savinja region:

- The Municipality of Bistrica ob Sotli,
- The Municipality of Braslovče,
- The City Municipality of Celje,
- The Municipality of Dobje,
- The Municipality of Dobrna,
- The Municipality of Kozje,
- The Municipality of Laško,
- The Municipality of Mozirje,
- The Municipality of Podčetrtek,
- The Municipality of Polzela,
- The Municipality of Prebold,
- The Municipality of Rečica ob Savinji,
- The Municipality of Rogaška Slatina,
- The Municipality of Rogatec,
- The Municipality of Šentjur,
- The Municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah,
- The Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki,
- The Municipality of Šoštanj,
- The Municipality of Štore,
- The Municipality of Tabor,
- The City Municipality of Velenje,
- The Municipality of Vojnik,
- The Municipality of Vransko,
- The Municipality of Žalec.

The construction of the centre is resolinge the disposal of municipal waste for around 250,000 people in the region for the next thirty to fifty years. 


The Celje Regional Waste Treatment Centre was constructed in two phases.

In the first phase, the following facilities were constructed:
-  a sorting plant for separately collected waste types,
-  an enclosed composting plant for biodegradable waste,
-  dismantling of bulky waste,
-  a new landfill site for leftovers,
-  an administrative facility, a car-wash and all the corresponding infrastructure at the complex.

The second phase::

-  a plant for the mechanical and biological treatment of waste,
-  a plant for the thermal treatment of waste.
